Postcards

Incoming and outgoing prisoner personal mail must be on a pre-stamped or metered standard postcard. The authorized size for incoming postcards is no smaller than 3 1/2 x 4" and no larger than 8 1/2" x 11".

The following items are not authorized on postcards.

  • Do not meet the size requirements.
  • Have pictures, photos, or drawings on them.
  • Include gang symbols or writings.
  • Have watermarks, stains, stickers (including stamps), or labels.
  • Are marked with paint, cosmetics, markers, high-lighters, crayons, or other such substances.
  • Are treated with chemicals (for example, drugs, perfume, or cologne).
  • Are colors other than white.
  • Are altered, split, or glued.
  • Do not have a return address.

General information

  • Standard pre-stamped or metered postcards may be purchased at any U.S. Post Office or on U.S. Postal Service websites.
  • All incoming mail will be searched and may be read.
  • For money or negotiable instruments received through the mail, the envelope must include the prisoner’s name and must be designated “for deposit only” or it will be refused.
  • The Iron County Jail will only accept cashier’s checks, money orders, and/or government checks.
  • Other items received in the “for deposit only” envelope will not be delivered to prisoners and will be destroyed.

Sending books

  • Books must be new and shipped directly from a publisher, retailer, or book distributor (such as Amazon).
  • No hardcover books are allowed.
  • No spiral binding books are allowed.
  • No third party sellers are allowed.
  • Inmates are limited to 5 books in their possession and can only receive 5 books per month.
